This is wonderful! I just wanted to write to say how much I admire the way you run this newsletter—the effort you put into the weekly dispatches (which shows so much respect for your audience), and the even greater dedication it takes to complete a 30-day marathon. While I’m not a drawer myself, your disciplined and creative approach to your work has been a tremendous source of inspiration for my own small travel writing/photo projects. Thank you, and wishing you and whole DTW community a very happy new year!
I’m ready I need my butt kicked. I was in illustrator and Painter and I haven’t done much of anything for a year so a little butt cake will be wonderful. I look forward to sharing my stuff.
GUT 🌈! I have not been engaging for several months, however I am so pumped to dive into my 3rd trip around the 30 Day Drawing Galaxy! 🌌 so excited to arm my mental health with sacred drawing time! ✍️ I’ve missed you, beautiful folx!
I am inviting a friend this time. Kind folks here please help me suggest a materials list to my friend.
About my friend: they are currently exploring digital art on their iPad and loving that. They have decent drawing and painting skills. But don't draw regularly, because...life.
I personally think doing the GUT exercises with analog mediums will be a richer experience than doing it digitally. I sensed some hesitation from them when I suggested they go analog for GUT. I want to set them up for a fun experience and I think it will help if I can give them an exact list of materials.
I made this list with 3 main factors in mind: short, accessible, affordable.
Here's what I have so far, open to suggestions:
1. Basic sketchbook, or any medium of their choice. 4x6 or 5x7
2. Black Fineliner - 0.1 or 0.3
3. One coloring medium such as watercolor or colour pencils.
I agree that doing things analog is probably better, and I like your list of materials. However, there’s no reason not to do the 30 days digitally. Whatever they feel comfortable using, and that will get them to draw, is the best way to go. They can try things both ways in the first couple of days, when we do very simple things, to see what feels best to them.
Hi Christine, Substack still thinks you have a free subscription. A common mistake is using the wrong email address, or a misspelling. So check that. If that’s all okay, then write to support@substack.com and copy Kyle at community@drawtogether.studio. Let us know if you still have problems.

Does it take awhile to turn on my membership? I just did the upgrade to annual but it’s not giving me access
It might. Have you tried again yet? Also, we might be testing Substack’s servers just now with memberships.

Good themes. And I’m right there with you on leaving energy for dancing.
So looking forward to this. Great way to launch 2025.
Whoo! Ready to rumble!
