Hi from NY! And A's your Q's
Part two with visiting artist Maira Kalman and GUT members' artwork
The Grown-Ups Table is 100% member-supported. It’s just me, Wendy, making this. Truth be known, it takes *a lot* of time. So if you like that it exists, please subscribe, spread the world, and gift the GUT to creative friends. One of the best ways you can support is to TELL THREE FRIENDS. All the good art karma will instantly come your way.
Hello from New York!
It’s the NY Marathon today. That is not why I am here.
I am here to look at art. I’m doing some work stuff and visiting a DrawTogether Classroom, but it was my birthday last week and this trip is a treat to myself. There is so much good stuff to see right now: Hopper, Katz, Bechers, Tillmans, you name it. Every museum has a big exhibition and the galleries are stuffed to the gills. But if you’re not here, never fear - I have been taking notes and photos and I’ll do a “Wendy goes to NY” retrospective next week. Basically Eloise with a paintbrush.
But today I come bearing gold.
Last week we hosted the Grown-Ups Table’s first visiting artist, Maira Kalman. I shared some of her work and did a little interview with her, and she gave us our drawing assignment. You also had the chance to ask her questions.
Maira was delighted by your questions AND the artwork you created in response to her assignment, and today I’m thrilled to share a NEW Q&A with Maira - this time YOU did the interviewing. I am also sharing some of the artwork you created in response to her assignment below. I have mixed feeling about sharing selections of work here in the weekly GUT. I don’t want people to feel i’m selecting one drawing over the other, or be inspired by the idea of being “chosen.” (That is a direct line to knee-capping perfectionism, trust you me.) But I also know not everyone has access to the group chat. So today I’m going to share a RANDOM selection below. But please head over to the chat when you can/have access and share work there or on instagram with the tag #DrawTogetherGUT.
Okay, enough blah blah already. Let’s do this.

Tina: What do you do with the pictures you take on your walks/explorations? Do you keep them all, sort them, organize them? How do you use them? Thank you!
