Big news: As you know the DrawTogether team is *obsessed* with SFMOMA’s Ruth Asawa retrospective. We love it so much, we did a three-part series of deep-dives into her art and life, including an interview with her grandson, Henry.

Now, we are thrilled to share that DrawTogether and SFMOMA are collaborating to offer an IN PERSON Ruth Asawa-inspired drawing event at SFMOMA on Saturday, August 9th at 2pm!

DrawTogether In-Person at SFMOMA!!

On August 9 at 2pm, we will gather IRL to draw together and hang out and build some much needed in-person creative community. If you are in the SF Bay Area, join us!! GUT members get a discount to the Asawa exhibition! (See details below.)

Inspired by Ruth Asawa’s artwork and our earlier lesson on her flower drawings, we will do some warm up exercises based on Ruth’s abstract drawings, then we’ll draw flowers on our own and as a group.

The incomparable Torryne Choate of birch is going to create some gorgeous floral arrangements inspired by Ruth Asawa’s drawings for us to use as models. (We love you Torryne!) In addition to making our own drawings, we will also create a group drawing of flowers inspired by Ruth’s collaborative practice and vision.

This event is FREE and open to the public. We expect to reach capacity fast. If you’d like to attend, PLEASE PLEASE RSVP and arrive promptly to secure your spot.

Here are more details:

• All are welcome to this Grown-Ups Table community event, no matter your experience level or age. While it’s a grown-up focused event, feel free to bring your kiddos to draw with you.

• BYOS (Bring Your Own Supplies) including paper and whatever materials you like to draw with. UPDATE: You are welcome to bring your own pens, pencils or paper if preferred. PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY PAINTS, CUTTERS, GLUES. FYI Personal art supplies are not allowed to be used in any museum galleries (except for pencils).The museum will have extra art supplies on hand in case anyone needs them.

• The event may reach capacity. RSVPing means that you will be on a list for entry before 2pm. If you don't RSVP or arrive after 2pm, there will be a standby line, but we might fill up before you get in.

• Attending our event is free, but exploring the museum’s exhibitions, such as the Ruth Asawa retrospective, requires a ticket. We’re excited to share that SFMOMA is offering a special discount JUST FOR YOU:

  • SFMOMA is offering a $4 discount to the Museum for DrawTogether GUT subscribers on August 9th. The discount is available onsite only on August 9th and can be received by *showing the ticketing staff member a recent DrawTogether GUT dispatch*. Please note: SFMOMA cannot offer refunds for previously purchased tickets or tickets purchased online.
